6th Phil Plumtree LiteRace 25mins 26seconds
Following a mass start at the mouth of the River Colne the seaward leg once clear of the headland tested the rowers in waves and a head wind, surfing back into calmer waters from the turning mark.
Rowing was made more interesting by having to dodge the sailing dinghies who were also out in force enjoying the weather.
A strong head wind in the flat water of Brightlingsea creek ensured there was no let up for the rower until the line had been crossed.
The day concluded with sprint races for the gigs making sure as many people were involved in the water as possible.
Reuben, Gavin and toby with Gavin Steadman in bow and Wendy Whittaker coxing rowed Mehalah, Mersea Islands gig to victory in the men’s Sprint finishing an impressive 2 minutes ahead of the next boat.
Come and see us next at Stone sailing club, South minster, for the round Osea island race.
A 6 mile open water event.
