Hamble River Plundered
Coast boats took part in the Hamble River Raid on the 23rd May 2014.
What a fantastic event, incredible warm welcome from the organizers and other competitors.
The raid takes part as an open event so any one was welcome, we raced against Stand up paddle boards, out rigger canoes, Cornish gigs and all manner of small rowing boats both fixed and sliding seat.
The sliding seat boats didn’t have to do a le mans start but had a staggered 30 second start, a Coastal Burgashell single starting the sliding seat class followed by Reuben in a Lite Race, then Phil in his Lite race followed by Donna and Susie in the Mersea Blue Lite Double.
A battle quickly developed between the fine single and Reuben in his Lite Race.
The Lite Race proved to be the quicker and Reuben managed to pull ahead.
Finishing several minutes before the other single who had to avoid a yacht coming out of the moorings and never managed to catch up again.
The was a good haul to prizes – 1st single home, 1st sliding seat boat home and Furthest distance travelled to get to the race, having just come back from France the morning of the race.
Definitely a race for next year.
